Do you ever feel like everyone else has it figured out, and you’re the only one having a hard time running a business?
Do you sometimes feel like a total imposter when you tell people about what you do because you don’t feel like you are where you “should” be?
Do you sometimes wish with you didn’t ever start your business in the first place because now it feels like SO much work and has taken over your personal life?
I have felt all of these things before, and continue to struggle with imposter syndrome, overwhelm, and not fully feeling like I’ll ever have it all figured out. Sometimes running Make Itis daunting, and I have to say 10 years later, running the shows never gets easier.
Being an entrepreneur is not a simple path. That’s why few people dare to even try. There is a ton of uncertainty, and it can feel like you’re being pulled in many different directions all at once. It’s like playing tennis with countless partners – balls coming at the same time!
I’ve been an entrepreneur for most of my life. Even as a kid I started and ran small businesses with my younger brother. I talk about them in my book Make It Happen, because I know there are other people out there who got the itch to earn money using their ideas as children too.
Before Make It, I had another business called Booty Beltz, which I started while a student at the University of Alberta. I made and sold sash belts that I first started making out of vintage scarves. When I graduated from school, I ran my business full time and sold my belts at countless craft fairs across Canada. This is where I got the idea of running my own show. Something deep inside told me I could make craft fairs more fun
Because I started my business at a young age, I often felt like I didn’t know what the heck I was doing. I read a lot of business books, but often times they didn’t completely resonate. Most of my friends got “real jobs” straight out of school so I often felt isolated and alone. I longed for someone to just tell me what to do!
And then Marie Forleoentered my life. I stumbled upon one of her videos online, and it didn’t take long before I was hooked! I spent countless hours devouring her content because I finally found someone who I could relate to. She seemed to understand what I was going through and it was incredibly comforting to soak in as much information as I could from her.
In 2011 Marie offered a weekend long conference in New York City called Rich, Happy, and Hot. Looking back the name is pretty cringe worthy, but when I saw her promo video of women dancing around with big smiles on their faces, I knew I needed to be there.
It was a lot of money to go to NYC and attend Marie’s conference, but I somehow made it happen. Once I was there, I knew immediately I was in the right spot. Marie’s vivacious energy, and the vibe in the room felt so right. These were my people and I felt so grateful to connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs.
Towards the end of Rich, Happy, and Hot, Marie spoke about a Mastermind she offered once a year. Only 20 women were accepted, and the program included 3 retreats (LA, Mexico, and NYC, and monthly one-on-one coaching with Marie. Even though it was as expensive AF, and the thought of working directly with Marie excited and terrified (excitified!) me, I knew I needed to apply!
A few weeks later I received a phone call from Marie herself welcoming me into the Mastermind. I was absolutely delighted to get into the program…but also a little nervous too. The year I worked with Marie in 2012 was one of the most transformative things I’ve ever done in my life. Her insight, also with the incredible Mastermind group showed me what was possible.
Part of being in Marie’s Mastermind was access to B-School. I had never done an online program before, so I was very curious about it. Now, almost 7 years later, I continue to use B-School every year because it is such a valuable resource for growing Make It.
I’ve been a proud affiliate since 2012, and have recommended the program to countless Makies as well as other friends with small businesses. Everyone says the same thing – B-School works. It is the real deal, and honestly works like a hot damn!
Every year Marie puts out her free training videoswhich are packed to the brim with super valuable insight and information that I’ve never found anywhere else. She’s a cool, fun, high energy person who knows her sh*t and is great at explaining how things work. Watch her videos and you’ll right away what I’m talking about.
If you’re interested in B-School and have any questions about Marie or the program, I would be more than happy to chat with you – just send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org). I’m also offering 2 FREE hours of coaching to everyone who signs up for the program through my link. The only reason I do this is because I believe in the program because I’ve seen the results myself.
Maybe B-School isn’t in the cards for you this year, and if that’s the case just watch her videos because they will help you.
Here’s to you making it happen!
